Peggy Maguire is a Political Scientist, Trinity College Dublin, and is committed to equitable and gender-sensitive approach in health policy, research, treatment and care. She has been a member of the EU Commission's External Advisory Group on Ageing and Disability, and WHO expert group on gender mainstreaming. Peggy initiated many research projects and publications, including the development of a cancer information site for women and families www.eurohealth.ie.

Peggy was recently appointed by the Minister for Health in Ireland as Co-Chair of the Women’s Health Task Force and a Member of the Independent Patient Safety Council. Publications include: Women’s Health in Europe-Facts and Figures across the EU; Reducing Health Inequalities and a series of policy briefs on chronic diseases and health issues affecting women. Peggy has previously worked as Director of Development at the National Maternity Hospital, Dublin and Director of the Research and Education Foundation at the Irish College of General Practitioners.

One of her main areas of interest is the reduction of inequalities in health and the promotion of wellbeing and the prevention of disease. Promoting gender equity in biomedical, health and social research aiming for access to high quality treatment and health care for all European citizens and the reduction of health inequalities.
